Film release date: 2022    Film language: French

Directed by François Ozon and featuring Sophie Marceau as the daughter and Charlotte Rampling as the ex-wife, this drama is based on a novel and was first screened at the Cannes Film Festival. The film deals with questions of euthanasia and assisted dying in an unsentimental fashion, along with the complexities of family dynamics. A retired industrialist, played by André Dussolier, has a stroke and when his daughter hurries to see him in hospital tells her that he wants to make arrangements to end his life as he cannot bear to be sick and half-paralysed. The film had a mixed reaction from the critics, but scored an average of 4 stars for its treatment of a difficult and controversial topic.
